Chassahowitzka: “The Chaz”

The Wildest River in Florida

This is Chadillac’s absolute favorite paddling adventure. Named one of the most outstanding waterways in the state, the Chassahowitzka River is a step back in time to a Florida that feels completely untouched.

Our journey begins at the headsprings, where you can swim through the limestone caverns and “solution holes” of Seven Sisters Springs. These underwater tunnels are part of the Florida Aquifer.

From there, we head downriver into a true subtropical wilderness. This isn’t a manicured park—it’s a raw, beautiful ecosystem where you’re likely to spot manatees, dolphins, otters, and rare birds around every bend.

The highlight for many is the paddle up Baird Creek to “The Crack”—a secluded sulfur spring with a deep limestone fissure and a hidden rope swing. It’s the ultimate spot to cool off and soak in the “Old Florida” vibes.

If you want an adventure that’s a little more rugged and a lot more rewarding, this is the one.
